PINK SCENTED GERANIUM

Pelargonium hortorum (Pink Variety)

Beautiful pink blooms and fragrant leaves!

A stable of the cottage garden, nothing goes with a white picket fence like geraniums.

We like using scented geraniums as soft landscaping around vegetable beds. Their light perfume always smells beautiful and they are easy to grow.

Scented geraniums are drought-tolerant so you can get the cottage garden look without the water expense.

In very high heat geraniums may stop flowering and will resume when the temperature drops.

Our geraniums are usually pink with lime leaves but some cross-pollination can occur so when ordering from us the colour of your flowers and foliage will be a surprise!

This Pink Scented Geranium offers clusters of lovely pink flowers and aromatic foliage. Its leaves release a pleasant scent when touched, adding a sensory delight to your garden or home.

It produces abundant clusters of vibrant pink flowers throughout the growing season, attracting pollinators and adding a cheerful splash of colour.

Plant in well-drained soil and a sunny to partly sunny location. Regular watering and deadheading will encourage continuous blooming.

Australian History

Common garden geraniums, including pink scented varieties of *Pelargonium hortorum*, have been popular garden plants in Australia for many decades. They were introduced from their native regions in southern Africa and have thrived in various Australian climates, becoming a familiar sight in both formal and informal gardens.

Australian Uses

In Australia, Pink Scented Geraniums are primarily grown for their ornamental appeal. Their vibrant pink flowers add colour to garden beds, borders, and containers. The scented leaves are also valued for their aromatic qualities, releasing their fragrance when touched. They are popular in window boxes, hanging baskets, and as indoor plants in bright locations.

Australian Growing Guide

Growing Pink Scented Geraniums in Australia is generally easy. They prefer well-drained soil and a sunny to partly sunny location. Plant seedlings in spring after the last frost. Water regularly, especially during hot and dry periods, but allow the soil to dry slightly between waterings. Deadheading spent flowers will encourage more blooms throughout the season. In cooler regions, they are typically grown as annuals.

Australian Landscaping

Pink Scented Geraniums are versatile for Australian landscaping. Their bright pink flowers make them excellent for adding pops of colour to borders and edging. They thrive in containers on patios and balconies, and their relatively compact growth habit makes them suitable for smaller gardens. They can also be used in mass plantings for a striking visual display.

Australian Companion Plants

Pink Scented Geraniums pair well with other sun-loving annuals and perennials. Consider planting them alongside Petunias, Marigolds, and Salvia for a colourful and textured display. Their presence can also sometimes deter certain garden pests.

Australian Disease Resistance

Pink Scented Geraniums are generally relatively hardy but can be susceptible to common garden pests and diseases, such as aphids, whiteflies, and fungal issues like rust and powdery mildew, especially in humid conditions. Good air circulation, proper watering techniques, and regular monitoring can help prevent these problems. Choose well-draining potting mix for containers to avoid root rot.
